Wynwood started life as a garment and warehouse district. Since the early 2010s its walls have been covered with large-scale murals by artists from around the world, and it has turned into one of the most photographed neighbourhoods in Florida.
The core is the Wynwood Walls, a curated outdoor museum of murals, but the real draw is that the art continues on the surrounding streets for blocks. Murals are repainted regularly, so what you see is never exactly what last year's photos showed.
Go if you
- You like street art, photography and design
- You want breweries, coffee and food halls on foot
- You are happy to wander without a fixed route
Eat and drink
- Panther Coffee, one of Miami's well-regarded local roasters, started in Wynwood.
- Craft breweries and taprooms are scattered around the district; many have outdoor patios.
- Zak the Baker, a kosher bakery and cafe, is a favourite for breakfast and sandwiches.
- Several food halls and small restaurants fill the side streets for dinner.
Don't miss
- Wynwood Walls itself, which is a ticketed courtyard (check the current price and hours).
- The free murals on the streets around it, especially off Northwest 2nd Avenue.
- Small galleries and independent shops, many with their own murals.
Know before you go
- Photography is welcome, but do not climb on walls or lean on active artwork.
- Shade is thin. Bring water and sun protection in the middle of the day.
- Some bars and restaurants only open in the evening.
