GTA 6parents guide
GTA 6 is rated Mature 17+ (ESRB) and PEGI 18. See the rating details, the PlayStation and Xbox parental controls, and how to talk with teens.

We have not played Grand Theft Auto VI. Everything below comes from the rating labels on official pages and from the platform holders' own parental control guides.
The official ratings
US and Canada (ESRB): Mature 17+. Rockstar's site and the PlayStation and Xbox store pages list seven content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. The game also carries an in-game purchases label. Confirmed
UK and Europe (PEGI): 18. PlayStation's UK page lists the descriptors as Drugs, Sexual Content, Extreme Violence, Nudity and In-Game Purchases. Confirmed
GTA BOOM also reports R18+ from Australia and R18 from New Zealand, both flagging sex scenes, based on store listings it checked on October 2. We have not opened those boards' own pages. Unconfirmed
What PlayStation controls offer
PlayStation's guide says you can set an age level for games and apps, and a game starts only if its rating fits the child's age setting. A child who hits a block can send a request, and a family manager can approve or decline it from the PlayStation Family app or the website. The monthly spending limit is 0 by default. You can also set playtime limits and restrict communication and user-generated content. Confirmed
What Xbox controls offer
Xbox has its own family settings for age limits and purchases, described on Xbox Support. We could not load that page in our last check, so read it directly before launch and do not rely on our summary. Unconfirmed The Xbox store listing does say the free GTA+ month is not available to child accounts with restrictions on age-restricted content. Confirmed
Set up controls before launch
- Create a child account inside your family group on your console's platform.
- Set the age level below Mature so GTA VI is blocked by default. PlayStation offers preset levels up to Late Teens or Older.
- Set a spending limit of zero, or require purchase approval where the platform offers it.
- Turn on playtime limits if you want them.
- Decide in advance how you will handle exception requests.
Talking with a teen
These are our suggestions, not official advice:
- Ask what they have heard about the game before you decide.
- Explain your reasons, such as the violence, sexual content and drug use named on the labels.
- Agree on a rule for friends' houses, where controls do not apply.
- Revisit the decision as they grow older.
- Watch the official trailers together if you are unsure what the series looks like.
What we do not know
No online multiplayer has been announced, so there is no announced chat with strangers at launch. Rockstar's launch is described as single-player. That could change, so recheck after launch. Unconfirmed See online status.
What is GTA 6 rated?
Mature 17+ by the ESRB and PEGI 18.
Can a 16-year-old play it?
The label says 17 and over in North America and 18 in Europe. Your own rules matter most.
Can I stop in-game spending?
On PlayStation the monthly limit is zero by default. For Xbox, check Xbox Support for the current purchase settings.
Is there a kids mode?
None has been announced.
