GTA 6 controller setup: charge,update and remap

Prepare your DualSense or Xbox controller before November 19, 2026: charge, update firmware and remap at system level. No GTA 6 options are announced.

The short answer

Charge your controller, install its firmware update and set button remaps in your console menu now. Rockstar has not announced GTA 6 controls, control layouts or accessibility options, and we found none on the pages we opened. Confirmed System-level tools from PlayStation and Xbox still work on a new game, with some limits.

What the PlayStation page says about GTA 6

PlayStation's GTA VI page lists DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and the integrated speaker among the features for the PS5 version. Confirmed It does not describe how GTA 6 uses them. The Xbox listing does not describe controller features at all. Confirmed

DualSense: charge and update

Prepare a DualSense

  1. Connect the controller to the PS5 with a USB cable marked "charging and data". "Charge only" cables will not do.
  2. Charge it while the console is on or in rest mode. Press the PS button and open Accessories to check the battery level.
  3. Open Settings, Accessories, Controller (General), DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software to update by hand.
  4. Controller updates also arrive with PS5 system software updates.
  5. If it will not connect, try another USB port or cable, and use PlayStation's reset guidance as a last step.

All of the above is from PlayStation's controller support page. Confirmed The DualSense connects by USB Type-C and Bluetooth. Confirmed

Xbox Wireless Controller: batteries and updates

  • The controller uses AA batteries, with up to 40 hours of battery life per Xbox. A rechargeable battery pack with USB-C is sold separately. Unconfirmed
  • Xbox says battery life varies with headsets, accessories and usage. Unconfirmed
  • The Xbox Accessories app handles firmware. On console it tells you when an update is optional or mandatory. Unconfirmed Xbox published that note in 2015, so check the current app.
  • Button mapping is done in the Xbox Accessories app, and Xbox says it needs a compatible USB-C cable. Unconfirmed

PlayStation's accessibility page also says you can see a game's accessibility features by opening its PlayStation Store hub and pressing triangle. Confirmed Do that for GTA 6 when Rockstar lists options. Default prompts still showing when you remap is common practice, not a GTA 6 fact. Estimate

Nothing specific. Rockstar has not published a GTA 6 accessibility list on any official page we opened. Confirmed Reports about job listings or hopes for subtitle and remapping options are not announcements. Unconfirmed Rockstar usually details such options closer to release. Estimate
