Internet speed for GTA 6download: time by Mbps

Download time in hours is the file size in GB times 8,000, divided by your speed in Mbps, divided by 3,600. Estimate Rockstar has not announced GTA 6's install size, so every time below uses an example size, not a real one. Unconfirmed

Pre-load opens on November 12, 2026 and the game unlocks on November 19. Confirmed That is a week of download time, so even a slow connection can finish. Here is how to see where yours lands.

The formula

One gigabyte is 8,000 megabits. Your plan is sold in megabits per second (Mbps). So:

hours = GB x 8,000 / Mbps / 3,600

Example: 150 GB at 100 Mbps is 150 x 8,000 = 1,200,000 megabits. Divide by 100 and you get 12,000 seconds. Divide by 3,600 and you get 3.33 hours, or 3 hours 20 minutes. Estimate

Download time by speed

Connection	100 GB	150 GB	200 GB
25 Mbps	8 h 53 m	13 h 20 m	17 h 47 m
50 Mbps	4 h 27 m	6 h 40 m	8 h 53 m
100 Mbps	2 h 13 m	3 h 20 m	4 h 27 m
300 Mbps	44 m	1 h 07 m	1 h 29 m
500 Mbps	27 m	40 m	53 m
1,000 Mbps	13 m	20 m	27 m

The three sizes are examples. Estimate Published guesses, such as the 150 to 200 GB range in our file size guide, are not official. Real speeds are usually lower than the plan speed, so add 20 to 50 percent as a safety margin. Estimate

Wired or Wi-Fi

Xbox's support page says a wireless console may be competing with other wireless devices, and suggests a wired connection to the router if you can. Unconfirmed PlayStation's connectivity pages also list a wired setup as an option. Unconfirmed A cable is not always faster, but it removes interference and is steadier over a long download.

Xbox lists the other-device and off-peak tips on its slow-download page. Unconfirmed

Rest-mode downloads

You do not need to watch the progress bar. On PS5, PlayStation says to set the console to Stay Connected to the Internet if you want downloads in rest mode. Unconfirmed The path is Settings, System, Power Saving, Features Available in Rest Mode. Unconfirmed

On Xbox Series X|S, the Shutdown (energy saving) option can still receive overnight updates to games, according to Xbox Wire. Unconfirmed In Sleep mode, the console can also be woken remotely. Unconfirmed Check Settings, General, Power options.

Data caps

Some internet providers limit monthly data. Xbox's bandwidth page says to restrict downloads to the games you will play soon if you are near your cap. Unconfirmed A 150 GB example is a large share of a 1 TB monthly allowance, about 15 percent, before your normal use. Estimate Check your plan before November 12, and ask your provider about uncapped or off-peak options.
