Grand Theft Auto VI takes place in Leonida, a fictional US state, and its main city is Vice City. Confirmed Rockstar's website names six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Confirmed
The state of Leonida
Rockstar's story text places Jason and Lucia "on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America", inside a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida. Confirmed The site calls the state the sunshine state, and describes it as home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond. Confirmed Dazed's August 2026 interview package says Leonida is based on Florida, and Rockstar's team describes dedicated research in Miami. Confirmed Rockstar's own pages use the Florida comparison only through lines like "sunshine state". We do not claim any real town maps one-to-one onto a Leonida region.
The six regions in Rockstar's words
| Region | How Rockstar describes it | Wiki page |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | The sun and fun capital of America, with named neighbourhoods and a port | Vice City |
| Leonida Keys | A tropical archipelago, easy-going, beside dangerous waters | Leonida Keys |
| Grassrivers | The wetlands, with gators and mangroves | Grassrivers |
| Port Gellhorn | A once-popular vacation spot of cheap motels and empty strip malls | Port Gellhorn |
| Ambrosia | The industrial heartland, run around a sugar refinery and a biker gang | Ambrosia |
| Mount Kalaga | A national park and landmark on the northern border, for hunting, fishing and off-road trails | Mount Kalaga |
All of the above is paraphrased from Rockstar's own page. Confirmed
Vice City neighbourhoods and places
Rockstar's Vice City text names Ocean Beach (pastel art deco hotels and white sands), Little Cuba (bakeries), the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port, which it calls the cruise ship capital of the world. Confirmed The Ultimate Edition page names more places: Stockyard, Gambit Bay, Washington Beach, Watson Bay and Lake Leonida, and a few shops, such as Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor. Confirmed The Penitentiary where Lucia was held is the Leonida Penitentiary. Confirmed
People and places
Rockstar presents its supporting cast on the same page as the regions. Boobie Ike is a Vice City figure, Brian Heder moves product through a boatyard in the Keys, and Only Raw Records is the label tied to Vice City's music scene. Confirmed The page pairs people with "Explore" links, but we do not assert which person belongs to which region beyond those descriptions. See Only Raw Records and our characters guide.
What we do not know
- Where each region begins and ends on the map, and how they connect.
- How big the world is. See map size and what is confirmed.
- Whether more regions or cities exist beyond these six. Rockstar lists six. Confirmed
What the setting means for you
For now, the setting is something to read and watch. The trailers guide lists the official videos, and the timeline shows when each arrived. The map will be playable from November 19, 2026.
